New Digs | August 2018

Yeah man! Posts have slowed down around here... but no worries! Records still keep piling up! Hard to imagine finally landing a copy of "Headless Heroes of The Apocalypse" from one of my local spots. Here are some of the records to find their way home.

Amish - S/T (Sussex, 1972)

Truth & Devotion - Heaven At Last (Tyscot, 1981)

Irma Thomas - Take A Look (Imperial, 1966)

The Farm Band - S/T (Mantra, 1972)

Toe Fat - Two (Rare Earth, 1971)

Eugene McDaniels - Headless Heroes of The Apocalypse (Atlantic, 1971) <-- promo

Eddy Senay - Step By Step (Sussex, 1972) <-- promo

Sir Douglas Quintet - 1+1+1=4 (Philips, 1970)

Bob Haack - The Electric Lucifer (Columbia, 1970)

Arthur Adams - It's Private Tonight (Blue Thumb, 1973) <-- promo

Genesis - In The Beginning (Mercury, 1968)

Shuggie Otis - Freedom Flight (Epic, 1971)

New Digs | Late June 2013

Here are a few more records I picked up last month. Super stoked to finally land a copy of that Shuggie Otis. This copy is a 1975 re-issue, but still a solid score! I rarely see his records so I had to pounce on this copy. Over the past few months, I've been slowly inputting my "collection" on Discogs... It's taking me forever! In the process I've become more familiar with glaring omissions in my stacks, two of which (Kool & The Gang and Mandrill) I was lucky enough to snare in the wild days after making my observation.

Happy hunting, nerds!

Scientist - Scientific Dub (Clocktower Records, 1981)

The Impressions - Check Out Your Mind! (Curtom, 1970)

Jr. Walker & The All Stars - Home Cookin' (Soul, 1969)

Shuggie Otis - Here Comes Shuggie Otis (Epic, 1970) <-- 1975 Repress

Mandrill - S/T (Polydor, 1971)

Kool & The Gang - Love and Understanding (De-Lite, 1976)

New Digs | Record Store Day 2013

This was the first RSD for my local record shop, so pickin's were a bit slim. This didn't disuade the Costa Mesa record geek collective from forming a pretty massive line out the door to browse the day's selections. All things said and done, it was great time and I got in and out fairly quickly with the few releases that caught my eye.

Fela and Afrika 70 - Sorrow Tears and Blood (Kalakuta, 1977/2013)

I'm a newbie to Fela. This may not have been the best record of his to start with, but it's damn good. Gooves for days.

Brian Eno X Nicolas Jaar X Grizzly Bear (Warp, 2013)

Split 12" with Nicolas Jaar remixes on each side. Long a fan of Grizzly Bear and Brian Eno, what I've heard from Mr. Jaar has definitely sparked my curiosity. Abstract and moody stuff with a subdued but very present house backbone.

Shuggie Otis - Introducing (Epic, 2013)

I was fortunate enough to score a copy of Freedom Flight a few years ago. I love it, and I guess I'm just not patient enough to wait for a clean copy of Inspiration Information to cross my path. This is an excellent "introduction" to his work and the sound is amazing.
