Jo Ann Garrett - "I'm A Now Girl (Do It Now)"

I love this awesomely funky cut from JoAnn Garrett on Duo Records. I haven't stumbled across too many 45's from this label, but the ones I have copped so far have been pretty strong. Apparently JoAnn Garrett got her start after winning a talent contest in Chicago to secure a short stint with Chess records before breaking away and cutting a few sides on Duo. This particular 45 was produced by Andre Williams, who has been featured a couple other times on this blog. Do it now!

Google searches have yielded minimal information on this artist, song and label, but that doesn’t mean the song isn’t any good! This is a catchy Detroit styled soul-side by The Profiles called "If I Didn't Love You" (Note the typo on the record!) that doo-wop fans may appreciate.
