Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique | Limited Edition 7-Inch Box Set

There really isn't too much I can say about the Beastie Boys that hasn't already been said. I grew up with them, and they always provided somewhat of a big brother role for me, introducing me to all the cool shit along the way. They are trailblazers that have done it their way, on their own terms, while both breaking and creating the mold. I always keep an eye out for their releases (Hot Sauce Committee Part Two is excellent!) and over the last few years there have been a lot of cool packages and reissues of their past releases. I've always had a hard time picking a favorite album from them, as each record has a unique sound and spot in my heart and memory, but depending on the day, Paul's Boutique is usually at the top of my list. When I saw this cool 7” box set that collects rarities, outtakes, demos, and live versions to re-make their classic Paul's Boutique album, I had to scoop it up. Limited to just 1000 copies, each 7” record colored to create a full spectrum, the set was an obvious addition to my Beastie Boys collection. The alternate versions of each song provide a new way to appreciate the album as a whole. I have uploaded each side of each 7” here for your listening (and viewing) pleasure. Sadly, MCA passed away a couple months ago. His death affected me quite unlike any other celebrity death in recent memory. I hope that this post provides a fitting homage to him as one of the best to ever do it.

RIP MCA
