Harvey Scales & The Seven Sounds - "Broadway Freeze / I Can't Cry No More"

If you were an up and coming R&B funkmaster in the 60's and 70's, it was virtually impossible to not exist within JB's shadow. Harvey Scales is one of many that borrow heavily from the funk template put down by the Godfather... The sound just works! In those days artists made their mark regionally and could essentially own the sound locally without stepping on toes. Getting his start in Milwaukee, Harvey Scales and his band The Seven Sounds recorded on local labels Cuca and Magic Touch Records before moving on to Chicago's Cadet. Below is a record I scooped up at a local flea market that features the songs “Broadway Freeze” and “I Can't Cry No More”. Feel free to send any other Harvey Scales 45's my way!
